EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Minimum requirements – High school diploma or G.E.D., ability to type 35 wpm, computer skills, outstanding multi tasking skills, ability to handle and perform well under stress, excellent customer service.  Ability and willingness to work full time, 12 hours shifts, overtime, holidays and weekends.  Applicants must pass a comprehensive background check, drug and psychological testing.  Employees must live within a 50 mile radius of the Law Enforcement Center at 2727 Rodd, Midland, MI 48640.

Midland County Central Dispatch Authority (MCCDA) employees are not employees of the County.  MCCDA is a separate Authority that provides the emergency answering point for Midland County.  The dispatch center handles, on average, 250 calls in a 24 hour period.

HIRING PROCESS

Accepted applicants must be able to attend testing and interviews at scheduled times as they pass each phase.  Applicants will be notified by email and postal mail of their scheduled testing and interview dates and times.  Tests and interviews cannot be rescheduled.

  • Dispatch Simulation Test, Tentatively Scheduled for January 23 and January 24, 2012.
  • Formal Interview Board, Tentatively Scheduled for January 31 and February 1, 2012.
  • Typing and Data Entry Test and Peer Interview Board, Tentatively scheduled for February 7, 2012.
  • Background Investigation
  • Psychological Screening
  • Drug Screening
  • Fingerprint Check

 

TRAINING PROCESS

Successful candidates are placed in the Midland County Central Dispatch Authority Training Program.  Trainees undergo an intensive hands on training program that includes classroom instruction. Trainees are assigned to a dedicated Communications Training Officer (CTO) for each of the 4 steps of training, which is approximately 6 months in duration.  Each step of training lasts approximately a month and a half and rotates through both day and night shift assignments.
